Open Question: why does my alternator work sometimes on my honda accord?

always when i start up my car nomater if i just finished driving batterry ligth on dash is on? sometime it will go off while im driving or when i make a hard left turn! sometime it will come on and my dash and driving ligths will look brither? sometime it will suck my batterys life and the car wont want to go backsfires then all of a sudden alternator will kick in and all comes to normal? what can i do what can i check what would it be ??? its a 1990 honda accord 4 door ex with 160 k? need help...
